Accessibility Statement
Last updated: 14 October 2026
VitalReturns is committed to making tax compliance accessible to every taxpayer in Uganda, including users of assistive technology. We target WCAG 2.2 level AA conformance across both the public marketing site and the authenticated workspace.
1. Conformance target
Target: WCAG 2.2 level AA.
Current status: Partially conformant — we meet the vast majority of criteria, with a small number of known gaps actively being closed (see §4).
2. Features that support accessibility
- Semantic HTML landmarks on every page (
header, nav, main, footer). - Visible keyboard focus indicators across the entire marketing site and workspace.
- Keyboard-driven mega-menus with full ARIA (
aria-haspopup,aria-expanded,aria-controls, role="menu" / "menuitem") and arrow-key navigation. - Form fields with explicit
labelelements andaria-describedbyfor inline validation messages. - Colour contrast at AA threshold (4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text and UI components).
- Text can be resized to 200% without loss of content or function.
- Reduced-motion preferences respected via
prefers-reduced-motion. - Alt text on all meaningful images and icons; decorative icons use
aria-hidden.
3. Assistive technology support
VitalReturns is tested with:
- NVDA 2024 on Firefox and Chrome (Windows).
- VoiceOver on Safari (macOS and iOS 17+).
- TalkBack on Chrome (Android 13+).
- Keyboard-only navigation (no pointing device).
- Browser zoom up to 200% and OS-level text-size overrides.
4. Known gaps
The following areas are not yet fully conformant and are on our roadmap:
- Complex workbook tables in the authenticated workspace are keyboard-navigable but could benefit from richer row/column header announcements for very wide tables.
- A small number of charts render as images without inline data equivalents — downloadable CSV + accessible table views are being added.
5. Feedback and reporting
If you encounter an accessibility barrier while using VitalReturns — or if a page is not usable with your assistive technology — please let us know. We treat these reports as high-priority bugs.
